The Technology Forge – A Solid Company with a Solid Future says The Chancellor

The Chancellor Gordon Brown and Mark Wardman, MD.
The Technology Forge was delighted to welcome Chancellor Gordon Brown to its offices on Friday January 7th. The visit was arranged with the assistance of Harold Best, MP for Leeds North West.
The Chancellor toured the office in Otley, saying he was impressed by the rapid expansion of the firm that was founded just six years ago and now employs almost 30 people with sales approaching £2 million. “I’m delighted to be here”, he said, “it’s a pleasure to see a company that’s grown so fast over its first few years. Its growth rate has been 40 per cent a year and sometimes up to 60 per cent. That’s the reason why I am confident we can hit our own growth target of three per cent.”
From humble beginnings, The Technology Forge has grown to become a market leading supplier of asset management, facilities and property management software. Mark Wardman, the company’s MD, attributes this success to an absolute commitment to customer service. “I would like to think we have the best software, but you also have to have the best staff with the right attitude”.
The Chancellor was keen to learn about how The Technology Forge software, tf. facility, is supporting local government in helping them meet Central Government Asset Management and Planning requirements for the DfES and ODPM. “We’re saving the Treasury money. Our asset management software helps local authorities make good investment decisions” said Mark Wardman. tf. facility enables councils to manage their asset data through a single integrated software solution. In a phrase, ‘Joined up software for joined up government’. As the Chancellor himself noted, one such council is Fife, his own constituency.
Emphasising the technology in The Technology Forge, The Chancellor was interested to see its GPRS handheld enabled software which helps Local Authorities fulfil the Government’s Decent Homes surveys initiative. However, as Mark Wardman explained, the company’s client base is not restricted to the public sector – it has also made its mark supplying Facilities Management software to large retail companies.
It was during the visit that the Chancellor chose to announce through BBC News that the G7 nations had agreed a package of debt relief for the Tsunami affected countries. He then concluded his tour by saying, “You explained that, based in the North, you wanted a solid name, well ‘The Technology Forge’ does sound solid and its future is very solid. I look forward to hearing about the ongoing progress of the company.”
